Air Raid Precautions.

Some friends of ours were recently in an Antique shop in Lancaster where they discovered three wartime logbooks used in Arnside in 1940. They kindly bought them and passed them to us. We shall be offering them to the well organised Arnside Archives Group.

They make fascinating reading with many of the longstanding Arnside families undertaking night observation duties. No bombs fell on Arnside but there were raids on nearby Barrow in Furness.

My extra shows a typical page of entries.
One entry elsewhere states: " Viaduct Guard fired 4 rounds at British Aircraft flying low, which had no navigating lights showing."
Fortunately he must have been a poor shot.
