A ramble round Royd Moor reservoir...
...a nature walk via our local footpaths and bridleways... ( We knew when we were on a bridleway as we were forced to do lots of hoss poo hops! )
It all started well as a heron circled above us as we walked towards the campsite, and the llamas were on the lookout as we passed. Any number of skylarks were singing away as we walked up the hill towards the windmills, and the swallows were swooping as we drank our cuppa up at the Windmill Nursery. We passed a flock of sheep with some very small lambs up by the viewpoint, and we could see right across to Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales. On the way back down the hill the herd of dairy cows were already out to pasture - a tad early for Yorkshire - and we heard the call of the curlew as we diverted round a new path ( to us ) round the reservoir. A kestrel did a flypast as we briefly sat on the bench at the end of the round - it's always rude to ignore a bench if someone has taken the trouble to put it there for you - and we saw as well as heard a skylark singing its heart out as we retraced our steps towards the campsite. Last leg along the road to the dam, and the martens were doing a grand job catching all the immets ( I suspect that is only our word for nasty little stinging things ).
Roy thought the walk might have been about five miles in total, and he probably did nearer six as he kept doing the odd run & return since he didn't go for a run this morning - a lovely round in the sun. He's now measured it and I walked six so he ran & walked 7+
All that and the washing was dry when we got back too... Now to find the thick coats again - I gather it could be chilly tomorrow...
