One Light
The day was spent at the studio transforming it from yesterday's classroom into tomorrow's photographic studio.. We have six photographers coming and two willing volunteers who are acting as models, this one and this one blipped recently.
We got out the projector so that we could show images as they were being taken. Using Lightroom we will tether the cameras to the laptop and we will have the laptop plugged into the projector. That way while they're waiting for their turn, the photographers can see how the poses and the lighting are working out.
We'll be basing our lighting on a key light (the strongest) a fill light (spreading softer light) and a rim light (to skim across the back of the model to separate him/her from the background. Important for black hair or clothing against a black background)
Of course we don't always have to use all 3, it depends on the mood required in the image. The Extra is a composite of 1, 2 and 3 lights in use.
What I would say is, we always want to show people how they can achieve nice results with minimum equipment for working indoors. The shot I've used here was taken with just one light. A sheet of white card or foamboard could have provided a little extra reflected light to my face.
It's a while since we've been asked to do anything like this in the studio, so we're hoping for an enjoyable day tomorrow
