being in the melting pot of dubai airport made me feel two things:-

1. how easy it is to live in our own boxes forgetting how varied the people of the world can be - clothes, ideas, faces, habits, mannerisms - and how exciting travel can be.

2. that the world is united by people's ability to consume stuff when given enough spare time and the opportunity to spend money of any currency

zombied about the airport, looking at the hazy 27 degree dawn through the windows and yearning for a breath of fresh air. ate what might have been breakfast but which could have been lunch if i'd calculated the time difference.

the 14 hour flight from sydney passed in a drowsy dark airplane full of people tucked up in airplane blankets sleeping or staring dead-eyed at seat back tv screens. (flushed away, the devil wears prada, and the break up, in case you were wondering..) (what a girl)

the 7 hours from dubai was notable for the economy class nirvana of an empty 4 seat row. (stranger than fiction followed by various comedy programmes and a pathetic attempt at tetris, in case you were wondering)
