Misty mountain
We decided to have an away day today and a sail to Arran. Drove down to Ardrossan to catch the 9.44 am ferry, and arrived in Arran just before 11am. Had a nice roll and sausage and cuppa on the ferry, so caught the bus right away along to the String Road, and started walking along to Glen Rosa. The weather was dry but dull and lots of mist and cloud around. My photograph shows Goatfell looking very atmospheric in the mist.
Continued up Glen Rosa, really enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery, then crossed the river at the bridge and returned down the other side of the river. The return path was very difficult, very rocky, very muddy in bits, very narrow with drops down to the river below. However, we took our time on this bit, and eventually came into the forest above Brodick Castle, actually in castle grounds, and walked through this down to Cladach. We then took the Fisherman's Path which is partly pathway and partly beach, back to Brodick. Were surprised we had walked seven miles.
Had a nice drink and snack in the Douglas, and then a wee walk around and a look at the Information Centre and shops until our return ferry arrived. Had a great day. I love Arran, an island in the Clyde estuary, and it is my favourite island, a miniature Scotland as in the north there are the mountains, and in the south it is flatter and more moorland.
Home to a nice meal and checking to see if we had won the lottery....... we had not. No surprises there then.
Hope your Saturday was good.
