Packhorse Hut

More than 100 years ago the Sign of the Packhorse Hut was built on Banks Peninsula, as a tea house.  It was constructed of locally quarried volcanic stone. Now it functions as a nine-bunk hut for over-nighters.

It was a brilliant calm autumn day of 20C for our trek up to the hut, from Gebbies Pass, an ascent of about 320 metres and 12 km return.
