Blackbird in full song
It's always pleasing when you hear a song and are able to identify the songster. Whenever I hear an evening blackbird I'm reminded of a poem that we learned at primary school. It's kind of old fashioned and a bit 'twee', but it always comes to mind, so here it is:
Vespers
O blackbird, what a boy you are!
How you do go it!
Blowing your bugle to that one sweet star...
How you do blow it!
And does she hear you, blackbird boy, so far?
Or is it wasted breath?
"Good Lord! she is so bright
To-night!"
The blackbird saith.
T E Brown (1830-1897)
Thank you for all your kind comments, stars and hearts for my yesterblip. We've now left beautiful Northumberland and have arrived in Chester, ready to explore tomorrow. Something tells me we shall have another taste of ancient Roman activity.
