The canal bookshop

We drove along to Brimstone port today. Brinscombe is inland, but because the Thames and Severn canal passes through it, it had a port for collecting Customs duties. It was Britain's most inland port.

The port is now handsomely restored and used as offices. The canal is also being restored, and renamed the Cotswold Canal. The bookshop is housed in the old Thames and Severn offices, and consists of many book-lined rooms, complete with kettles, mugs, chairs and volunteers! All the books are donated; sold on for a sixpence to the public; rooms can be hired for meetings; and the proceeds go towards the canal
restoration.

It was clear that many regulars pop in for a bag of books; that puzzle enthusiasts are welcome; that it's an all-round Good Thing. We left with a bag of books and a puzzle (total £5), came home and started reading!
