London Underground HQ

Working in London today... I'd not really taken in this vast building that sits atop St James's Park Underground Station before. Built between 1927 and 1929 it was designed as the Underground Electric Railways Company of London HQ, and now houses London Underground HQ.

It's a stunning building of Portland Stone and won an architectural award in 1931. The cruciform structure allows the maximum levels of light into the buidling.
The University of London's Senate House was later built on the same design.

You can read about the Epstein reliefs on the building that caused a public outrage when unveiled here.
