Norwich Cathedral Peregrines
Today I took a flexi day to spend with Jon. We decided to go in to Norwich for a coffee, and ended up in the Cathedral refectory. They have a nice selection of drinks and cakes, so we had a fruit scone each with jam and clotted cream, and I had tea, Jon a white coffee (which for some reason this country now calls an Americano). The refectory is light and airy. We enjoyed it, then went down to talk to the small group of bird experts who have a small gazebo set up, with telescopes focussed on the birds and their nest. The peregrines have been nesting here since 2009. Last year, a new female peregrine arrived, and because she has been ringed they were able to identify her, and she comes from Bath. She decided she wanted our male and chased away our female, and destroyed her chicks. This year, she is back, so is the Norwich male. There is no sign of the original female, and the assumption is that she was killed last year. The good news is that she has laid 3 eggs which they have been incubating, and they expect them to start hatching tomorrow. We will keep track by their webcam, but i will also go over at lunchtime during my working week.
After a bit of wandering around a collectables shop I like, then a sandwich lunch, we went home via Cromer. As we passed Henry's school we saw a group of students still hanging around, and one of them was Henry. It was 3pm so half an hour since school had finished. We stopped for him. The school bus hadn't turned up. We went to morrisons and did the weekly shop. It was nice to have help, but I think it took longer!
Home to some cleaning and tidying. A bit of tv while Jon and Henry were at scouts, and now I think I'm ready for an early night. Nice to have 3 more days at home....i could get used to long weekends!
