Sara Pascoe

One of the books which has generated the most discussion at my book club over the last few months is 'Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body' by Sara Pascoe www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssk6q3dDTPs

The book is divided into sections on 'love', 'body' and 'consent' and includes a lot of fascinating facts, compelling conjecture and stories about Sara and her own life experiences, some of them hilarious, some of them horrendous and all of them honest.

Apart from being an entertaining and witty writer, Sara's best known as a stand-up comedian, and it was in that capacity that she was in town tonight to play a sold out gig at the Epstein Theatre.

She's a naturally likeable person with a gawkily engaging stage presence and she appears to be completely lacking in embarrassment when discussing the most intimate and personal aspects of her life. There were quite a few gasps from the audience alongside the laughs!

She's frank but very funny and she makes some cogent points about modern life whilst never being less than thoroughly entertaining www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1NDZYLSo94 Do see her if you can. And, if you're looking for a good read, I can absolutely recommend her book!

It was good to have an opportunity to say hello to Sara after the gig and to give her some positive feedback on behalf of the book club. She was very accommodating about having her picture taken too. Thanks, Sara!

Fun fact. Sara's dad, Derek, was the sax player in '70s pop sensations Flintlock. Here's the proof... www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX0F3S9ZG7E
