Lovely drive on lovely day for the Three Peaks Race.
So good to be able to spectate without having the worry of Mr P doing it this year.
He has run it many times and has had sunburn and dehydration at the finish or hypothermia, so extreme can the conditions be around here.
Saw the start at Horton in Ribblesdale then stopped at a farmhouse that had a little cafe for coffee which was £1 a cup and home made cakes which were £1 a slice, wonderful value!
While in the cafe we were told that a steam train was coming through in about an hour.
So that was my dilemma: race or steam train?
If you follow my journal you will know l've always wanted to take a photograph of a steam train crossing the viaduct. Last time we went the train was going west to east and hadn't any steam, in my ignorance l didn't know you only get steam if the train is going from east to west on this part of the track.
Well today it was going in the right direction so l had time to take photographs of the leaders in the race as they arrived at the viaduct then l walked away from the runners to the vantage point for this photograph.
Then l met up again with Mr P and we went to another checkpoint to see the race again. The runners by then had climbed Pen-y-Ghent and Whernside with only Ingleborough to do, l say only, the race is about 23 miles long with a total climb of 1, 608 metres.
The winner completed it today in 2 hours 50 minutes.
