Last of the Apples

My dwarf Cox’s Orange apple tree had a bumper crop this season. I have eaten heaps, used them for cooking, and frozen baked chunks that are great in sandwiches with walnuts. There were just a few left and they had lost their snap so today I processed them into a thick paste. It has a powerful apple flavour which will be good on toast instead of jam. (I avoid eating sugar).

All my fruit trees and bushes did well this season. I like fresh fruit for breakfast. This week I had to eat preserved fruit for the first time in five months. Apart from about 20 days when I had bought fruit all the rest came from my own garden. There were strawberries, raspberries, red and black currants, grapes, four trees of plums, three trees of apricots, and one of apples. The best season ever.
