Fletcher statue, Selkirk.
I took an annual leave day today as the schools were closed. The sun came out, briefly at about midday, so I jumped in the car and went down to Selkirk. I've not blipped much from there.
This is the statue of Fletcher, who in 1513 was the only man (out of over seventy who left) who returned to the town, from the battle of Flodden. He brought back the English standard and cast it round his head three times to convey to all who had gathered that everyone was slain. This casting is recalled every year at the Common Riding, when, after the 'Riding of the Marches', the Royal Burgh Standard Bearer and the Standard Bearers from Selkirk's six guilds cast their flags.
