Anderson Hotel - Port Murray, NJ
The Anderson Hotel (currently for sale) sits at the crossroads of Asbury-Anderson Road that runs from Hackettstown to Washington, NJ.
The area was formerly called Andersontown, named after its first settler, Joseph Anderson, who came here in 1787. In 1790 he built the hotel and later built a distillery that was operated here from 1810 to 1852.
Once, the Morris Canal, the D., L. & W. railroad and the trolley line passed through the area.
The Methodist Episcopal Church at Anderson (seen in the background) was built in 1859.
