Clay pipes
Clearing the shed this morning I came across a pot full of all the bits of clay pipe I've dug up over the years, in this and previous gardens. I suspect many gardeners have similar hoards. If you don't put them aside you keep digging the same ones up year after year...
It's almost all nondescript stem fragments except for these few partial or almost complete bowls, along with three of the stems. The most interesting design is the one at about 11 o'clock, which appears to represent the head of a fish. The stem in the centre bears the inscription 'Paris', as can just be (partly) seen. From what I can find out, the ones pictured here are most likely nineteenth century, although I haven't looked very far into it.
