The Museum of Military Medicine
Today I visited Keogh Barracks near Aldershot to visit the Museum of Military Medicine. It covers the four medical corps, RAMC, RAVC, RADC & QARANC (Royal Army Medical Corps, Royal Army Veterinary Corps, Royal Army Dental Corps and Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps). My visit was to see if they had anything I could use for a project I'm involved in with the Royal Photographic Society.
This scene, one of many covering all periods of history, is set at a WW1 Casualty Clearing Station (CCS) and depicts a wounded RAMC officer being treated by a RAMC sergeant. A member of the QARANC is in attendance. The officer's horse is also wounded and is being seen to by a member of the RAVC. Unusually, for a member of a medical corps, he carries a revolver but it was not for defending himself...
The museum is free to visit and plans are afoot to move it to an all new venue in Cardiff in a year or so.
