Mcr Mosaics Musings
Busy afternoon and a heap of work to do on Monday morning. But it's all good. Miss A's last day of work for a week - I'll miss her madly but I know she'll be having a ball on her holidays.
I was really excited to be heading with Dan to a new exhibition 'Smashed' by my friend Amanda McCrann this evening.
It was in a great venue 2022NQ in the Northern Quarter . Very industrial, original pipework and tiles - and it showed off the art brilliantly.
I've seen some of the pieces before (and sometimes during creation if Amanda has posted photos) and I love them and think they are amazing and wonderful because of their intricacy AND simplicity.
Beautiful sentiments made up of hundreds of tiny tiles.
D hadn't seen any before but of course he adored them and we walked round picking out which pieces we would have on our walls...
...and from the sound of the other visitors, so was everyone else. Lots of well deserved praise and admiration for Mcr Mosaics.
It was great to see Amanda's husband, Manc poet and the librarian who taught me all I know - Mike Garry performing some of his work.
It was the first time Dan had heard Mike live - although he had seen his brilliant poem for Manchester United The Threads That Weave.
I hoped and thought that D would really like him - especially 'God is a Manc' and he did - it was a great performance by Mike and perfectly accompanied Amanda's iconic Mancunian art.
God is a Manc. She sure is.
