Day 8. A Visit to Waiheke Island
Today we went across the Hauraki Gulf by ferry to Waiheke Island, about 40 minutes from Auckland. The wake from the ferry is pointing back to Auckland and the Sky Tower in the distance. It is a beautiful island with a warm micro climate that is excellent for growing grapes and it attracts many of the wealthy to the secluded lifestyle.
The first extra shows a winery called the Mud Brick winery as that is what the original house was built of. I have included it his image because of the topiary in front. They are actually olive trees, pruned to that shape.
The second extra is a flock of terns that were sitting on the quay. Every time someone came close, they would swirl up into the air then resettle back down. When I think how I have struggled to capture a single tern back home....
Sorry, I can't get the second extra to load.
