Down But Not Out

Sometimes it's necessary to refuse to give up.

This is the Laund Oak. The once noble oak tree, possibly as much as 800 years old, came down last year and it looked like it would be lost to us. It remains a very sorry sight, but as spring has arrived it's clear that it's still hanging on to life, remaining just about connected to its root system. It's coming into bud. It might have lost its former dignity, but it's alive.

It offers a profound message to us all.
