Tonight 15 members of our photo club had a photo shoot/workshop at the Wilmington Harley Davidson dealer. The owner (a fellow photographer) provided the bikes, and the models. Great fun!
On another note (pun intended), let us celebrate the birthday of the late, great Canadian trumpet player Maynard Ferguson.
The first time he played this arrangement live in the U.S. was in the early 70s at a concert in New York at Town Hall, an old theater on West 43rd Street. He had just returned after several years on sabbatical in India. On his way back to the states he formed a band in England, the one that appeared that night in New York. I would not be exaggerating to say that half the audience were trumpet players.. famous players, jazz musicians, symphony musicians, students, teachers. Everyone who loved the trumpet was there. I had seen Maynard many times, but this was my favorite. When he played this tune, everyone in attendance was relieved that he still had it... the chops and the sound that we had grown to love.
