Clandon House Saloon - Before and After

Two years ago, Clandon House near Guildford was gutted by a fire started by an electrical fault.  Since then, the National Trust have been working hard to clear the property and decide on its future: currently they plan to restore the important ground floor "state" rooms, and with galleries and education rooms for the upper floors.

I last visited the property in September 2015  before they completed the scaffolding and cladding to make it water tight.  Today's trip was to take the opportunity to visit of the state rooms inside the property, via a purpose built walkway. The tour guide was very informative and positive about the importance of saving the house, and how much they are learning about its construction - for example the doorways (at least those which are not faked to provide symmetry to a room) are all arches.

My blip for today is a photoshop merge of the fireplace in the Saloon taken before the fire (as shown in one of the display panels) and after.  The originals are in the extras.
