In the Old Bridge House, Dumfries
We took a run through to Dumfries today, around 70 miles from our holiday village. One of the places we visited was the Old Bridge House, built in 1660. The bridge itself was built in 1431. I remember as a small boy, turning the mangle for my mum, although it wasn't as old as the one in the photo. Ours clamped between two stone sinks, one sink being deeper than the other. I also remeber hanging carpets on the washing line and beating them with a wicker beater. The good old days.
