Strathnaver

Drove up through Strathnaver today, scene of some of the most brutal of the highland clearances.  A sobering and poignant reminder of the past.  Atrocities being carried out in such a peaceful place somehow makes it worse.  More about it here , or for a more scholarly and less sensationalist account, this is an excellent book.

We spent the day followed the Strathnaver trail up to Bettyhill, stopping at various points en route.  Well worth doing, it's a fascinating area, and then when you get to Bettyhill the beaches nearby are wonderful too.  Another highlight of the day was Altnaharra - a lovely spot.

Super weather, bright sunshine with actual heat in it! Pulled off the road late afternoon and settled down with our books and knitting and Ollie had a bit of a doze!
