Mixed fortunes for our chicks

We've had a nest in the shed this spring and there has been much tweeting and cheeping for weeks. The chicks chose today to try to leave the nest. Not a good decision as it was a VERY wet morning. The dog found this bedraggled chick in a bush, but the mother was close by so we just watched and waited. Once the sun came out, the chick dried out and started to fly. Good news. But then the dog found a dead chick nearby. Sad news. In other bird news, we heard our first cuckoo today. In other news, the garden is almost dog proof at last. Woo Hoo!!
