Dunboy Castle
We set out today to drive around the Beara peninsula. We planned to stop for a walk in Dunboy woods. But we had trouble finding the carpark mentioned in the guidebook as the starting point for the loop walk. Instead, we found ourselves at Dunboy Castle. The weather was glorious, and we decided to just walk along the Beara Way for a while - along the coast. We walked up the right side of the bay in the first extra, almost all the way to the headland.
We then drove on round the peninsula, stopping to enjoy a salad and cup of tea at the Allihies Copper Mining Museum. We decided to find one of the stone circles, and discovered a walk up to Cashelkeelty. Quite a challenge for me, but we made it. The stone circle itself was interesting, the views were great, and I spotted a bird, which I think I have subsequently managed to identify as a great grey shrike (please feel free to correct me) - second extra.
We then headed back to our lodgings, via the wonderful Healy pass. Final extra is the view back over Glanmore Lake in the evening light.
PS Really struggling with internet this evening - had to add the third extra as an edit, but it's there now!
