Comma Silhouette
Massive trauma yesterday on losing ALL my keys on a long dog walk with no means at all of getting home or even inside the house if I did manage the miles back on foot! Having searched for a good hour amongst nettles without gloves and scoured the river bank I amazingly had them returned by a very fit and good looking helpful young man who had kindly jogged for ages to return them to me!
Consequently I thought I would blip a bit nearer home today! As luck would have it this Comma flew onto the window - brilliant - sorted!
A bit of a dichotomy; on the one hand he was instantly striking and very, 'in your face' with the velvet vivid orange, ragged yet gorgeous 'wing open' scenario but wings closed, his camouflage made him inconspicuous. However it didn't matter to me how hard he tried to look leaf-like the colours were just as stunning in their own way underneath - blues, creams and browns which meandered, weaving in waves along a very coastal looking wing! He was not going to manage to get away without a blip!
The white comma shaped marks on the underside of the hind wing which can just be seen in the image give this resident butterfly it's name!
Thank you to everyone for my butterfly being spotlighted yesterday - totally delighted!!!
