The road to Hana
Sunday we took the road to Hana: eight hours of hairpin turns through spectacular vistas of sea and mountains--one of the most beautiful roads in the world. Waterfalls. Painted eucalyptus. Torch ginger, banana flowers, red sand and black sand, waves, cliffs, caves, and everywhere these orange flowers like flames, and hibiscus, and fragrance.
Bella is not fond of long road trips. I sat by her in the back seat and we communed and sympathized, as I became a bit car-sick. It was worth every minute. Our favorite bits were when we got OUT of the car to see vistas, to play in the mud puddles (it was misting rain), and to explore the beaches and the Japanese cemetery in Hana. Pictures of all of it are on Flickr.
