Mono Monday - “Le (un) Regard Oblique”
I have been a fan of Robert Doisneau for many years and have a print of his hanging on our stairs in such a way that I see it every time I descend but not when going up. It is “Les Enfants de la Place Hébert” 1957. This image shows a young girl with an older girl standing behind her looking at the camera/photographer and an older boy leaning on a police box, NOT looking at the camera but at the girls, possibly another “Le Regard Oblique”
My contribution to this week’s challenge “Le (un) Regard Oblique” (The (a) sidelong glance) is not of humans but birds and like Doisneau’s image it was the last in a series of images I took. Mine was not a set-up like Doisneau’s. The starlings had been squabbling over the feeders with lots of squawking and flapping wings. Often there had been up to ten birds around the feeder but for this image just three. Two of the starlings are facing up to each other over the food and the third one is perched to the side on and arm giving them “a sidelong glance” (Le (un) Regard Oblique), waiting to take advantage of the squabble and get to the feeder.
