Dry Stone Wall at Loweswater

Another gorgeous day in the Lake District. This stone wall caught my eye. It divides fields at High Nook Farm near Loweswater, and has clearly been built to last. Stone wall techniques vary from one part of the National Park to another, but all will have sides that taper towards the top, providing much of the wall's stability. So often, the ends of walls are obscured by brambles or ugly gates, or are part collapsed, which prevents one seeing the clever construction.

The fell behind is Carling Knott, which stands in front of Blake Fell (hidden).
