Ancient cities and feisty animals

Wow, what a day! After nearly melting in the heat this morning exploring the ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa, we went on a fantastic elephant safari in the Minneriya National Park in the afternoon. This fella is unusual for an Asian elephant in having tusks. He is clearly not fond of having his picture taken, because about thirty seconds after I took this photo he launched a very nearly successful attempt at upending our jeep!
