Browsing in Bandon
Just back from a very enjoyable day exploring Bandon. Bandon was founded in the early 17C and planted with Protestants as was often the case back then! It was walled and fortified, had a tough time mid century then blossomed again in the 18C. We were led by Colin who is very knowledgeable about historic buildings and who wanted to trace the remains of the walls. He also has a theory that although many buildings look as though they are Georgian or Victorian, if you look closer you will spot their earlier origins. We peeped into shops, inspected extra large beams, tapped walls and admired odd chimneys. We learnt a lot! I also spotted a nice bit of rust for this week's DS challenge. This area was once famous for its tanneries and this rather posh arch and additional of later corrugated iron might be something to do with that. it might have something to do with the original walls too.
Many buildings look like the extra: tall, Georgian with fanlights, and many are painted jolly colours. A good day.
