His Bobness
For Christmas I had(I thought) the original idea of gifting my wife 12 days for Christmas to be enjoyed over the year. I opened her gift to me - 12 days for Christmas too.
Tonight was one of those days realised, her gift to me, a night attending a Bob Dylan concert, the newly acclaimed Nobel laureate.
Not for Bob turning out the old standards in the old ways. Older stuff was rendered new, at one point I thought he was "singing blowing in the wind" to the tune of "don't fall apart on me tonight", and then some covers of American classics with more venom than Sinatra ever managed. A melodic but still Dylanesque interpration of N K Coles "Autumn leaves" had the hairs on my neck standing up. At once enigmatic, surprising, confusing, beguiling and snarlingly comfortable.
And "The ballad of a Thin Man" to complete the evening.
Legend.
