A challenge

When I was at school I hated sewing. I just didn't have the patience to follow a pattern. I did, painfully, make the required apron etc but I was never really happy with what I produced. Later I made a maternity dress - which I hated - that was greatly needed as there just weren't any you could buy. I finally found my skill in making skirts, tops and dresses without patterns when we lived in The Gambia and I gained a treadle machine. I loved that machine and I hope it's still going strong today. Now I have a simple Singer which I got from Lidl some time back. For some reason it stayed in its box.
Recently I obtained some really good quality duvet covers and sheets from a 5* hotel. I had thought they were 'king' size, but that hotel's idea of king meant incredibly huge. My king quilt disappeared into the voluminous cover. So, there really was nothing else to do but to cut them down. Well, a huge duvet is not easy to cut up. We cleared the sitting room floor completely and spread it out. I came up with the idea of laying the quilt on top to decide how much to cut off. With trepidation we cut about 18 inches off the side and pinned it. Then I searched out my 'new' sewing machine, figured out how to thread it, and got ready to sew. I did some practice lengths and made adjustments until I was happy.

At that point I gave up for the day ...... I'll face the sewing tomorrow!  Oh, and then I have another duvet cover and two sheets (even more massive) to do the same to.
