The bridges of the Bishop's Glen ...

Silly title, I suppose - I was thinking of the Meryl Streep/Clint Eastwood movie The Bridges of Madison County, which I recall with amusement because I thought there was a washing machine running in the background of the opening scene (set in a kitchen) until we moved to the open country of Madison County and the sound was still there - revealed to be a characteristic of the antiquated sound system in the local cinema. But the photo here, and the two extra photos, are of little bridges in the Bishop's Glen, all of which looked particularly beguiling this afternoon.

I find the combination of blue sky and the tiny fresh leaves of the birch trees absolutely irresistible; I couldn't help remarking how different this familiar walk looked on a lovely afternoon as opposed to the foul weather we've often walked in here when it's been too beastly to bother going further afield.

A lovely walk listening to birdsong - a blackbird competing with a distant cuckoo who every so often would vary its song and produce a fifth as opposed to the more usual minor third. Must have been practising.

And there was a red squirrel scampering off among last year's dead leaves ...
