Greenhood orchid
Today was U3A walk. This time it was to Mt. Pilot, the Woolshed falls, an aboriginal cave and the heritage town of Chiltern in northern Victoria. For me the most fascinating was the Aboriginal cave walk, but I was unable to pick up the cave paintings well enough. They had been done in ochre, which is now fading into the granite after 2000 years. The whole granite landscape was amazing. Huge slabs often split deeply through time and erosion. There is no doubt we live in an ancient country.
However, the delight for me was to find a native orchid. This Autumn Greenhood (Pterostylis) is indigenous to Australia as well as New Zealand and other neighbouring countries and not as uncommon as some. So in the middle of this enormous landscape of granite and gums (extras), there I was down on my knees again, but without the macro lens! Still, a reasonable pic. A fabulous day all round.
