Battered, bashed but beautiful...
"The cellist opens his eyes. The sadness she saw in his face is gone. She doesn't know where it went. His arms rise, and his left hand grips the neck of the cello, his right guides the bow to its throat. It is the most beautiful thing she has ever seen. When the first notes sound they are, to her, inaudible. Sound has vanished from the world."
The Cellist of Sarajevo, Steven Galloway.
A dear friend gave me this book. With two boys in the house playing this beautiful instrument its power and beauty rang true.
Our eldest currently has an old cello on loan as he has moved to full sized.
Although battered and bashed in places, it has a real beauty about it.....much like I suppose Sarajevo has...
Am I sounding a bit philosophical/maudlin tonight? Maybe...
Photos of Calum's cello are the only photos I took today.
