Pere Lachaise
The cemetery in Paris where such notables* as Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Simone Signoret, Honore de Balzac and Oscar Wilde are buried.
Went looking for Jim Morrison's first, and found a tomb with "We Love You, Jim", "The Doors" and all sorts of other related etchings scraped into one of the outer walls.
What should have been etched there was "This is the wrong grave, idiots" as the correct one was on the other side of the path and is clearly marked with "James Douglas Morrison 1943 - 1971". Apparently, his grave has, in the past, been guarded by security personnel to prevent his fans having sex and taking drugs upon it.
Oscar Wilde's grave has suffered similar abuse at the hands of fans who have left hundreds of indelible lip stick kisses all over it, much to the annoyance of graveyard authorities who have even mounted a plaque requesting people to behave themselves and act in the correct manner around the grave, thus preventing thousands more euros from being spent in further attempts to clean the tomb up. It hasn't worked and Wilde's tomb is still covered in lip stick marks and personal messages.
Acts of vandalism or paying last respects in a non-conformist manner?
* notables in the case meaning the only people buried there who I've heard of. :)
