Christian Aid Week - the 40-plus year-old Book fair at St Andrew's and St George's opens at 10 today. It is, of course, cool and wet after weeks of sunshine.

My parents (aged 89 and 90) still do stints there as volunteers. When I dropped them off before 9.30 to get organised behind their section (Shakespeare, Drama), the queue of sharp-eyed buyers was already stretching towards the Square in spite of an earlier downpour.
