The Ballad of Reading Gaol
This was where Oscar Wilde was incarcerated for a while and the subject of his later poem.
Today was the last time it was open to the public before being sold for development. I went there when I was a young woman (in the line of work, not as a prisoner!!!) and it was the scariest place I had ever been. Needless to say, the male inmates were quite vocal as to what they would like to do to a woman.
It has had many uses over the years - Irish prisoners during the Easter Risings, German prisoners of war during WW2, a borstal, a young offenders unit. The last execution took place in 1913.
I thought a mono treatment gave it the atmosphere it needed.
