Spanish coffee culture
Before setting off on our Madrid trip, I chatted to my Spanish hairdresser whose parents are from Madrid......she recommended that we call into this Bar.....it's a well known Madrid landmark....
there are no tables...patrons stand at the bar....order their coffee, caña, toast, tortilla or whatever....then stand and drink at the bar.....maybe reading the free daily newspaper, or La Marca...the daily sports paper...buy a lottery ticket...chat to friends etc.
Today in Spanish bars....the cheapest coffee is served at the bar.....you pay more if you want to be served at a table....and even more if you want to be served on an outdoor terrace.
With the introduction of the No Smoking laws.....you can only smoke with your coffee if you are outside on the terrace.
I enjoy my morning cup of Café con leite for 1€ 40cents at a local bar, and... if I'm not chatting to a friend, ...I read a daily paper......after my beach walk.....and then get on with my day!
Spain has a very strong coffee culture....and in Albir there is a stong pavement cafe culture!....wonderful!
