Rhododendron Nursery
When I first moved into the area many years ago, this was the site of a garden centre owned by a nationwide chain. According to local history, it was established as a small nursery by the early 1800s, and eventually was recognised as one of the country's leading Rhododendron and Azalea specialist. Each year around this time I recall you could book a tour through the nursery area - though I never took advantage.
However, the retail area gradually reduced in size until a few years ago it was sold off. Today the site hosts a supermarket, a soon to be open pet store and a small housing estate. A large part of the area has been given over to an open space /nature reserve, including the Rhododendron beds, which despite being overgrown still manage a good show.
