Large Red Damselfly
Well I think it is! I also thin owning to the yellow/gold mark on the thorax that it is female. If you know better please tell me.
The second day of our short visit to the Silverdale area. Another day of beautiful weather so we had a very leisurely morning and early lunch. Then we set off from the caravan site to explore the a joining Gait Barrow Nature reserve.
We had been told that the limestone pavement had an interesting population of orchids. However we turned the wrong way and could see the pavement in the distance. Fortunately we suspect it might be a little early, as the orchids we did see were still only showing leaves.
Heading along a circular route we came across a small "pond" (more a sort of large puddle). The glade it was in was alive with damselflies of various colours. For once they were obliging and when they landed they stayed in one place for a minute or two. This gave good chances to get a blip.
