Up River

I did say that I cannot get enough of the river. My favorite walk here is a meander up the banks, stopping frequently to watch the bugs and birds and fish and clouds go about their business. As we ate our lunch on a granite boulder in the warm sun, Mr S suddenly said, "What's the matter with your boots?" Alas, the bottom rubber tread of my very sturdy and reliable hiking boots was almost completely separated from the shoe. Apparently this is known in the trade as a flapper. And here I am with no duct tape! Always have a little roll of duct tape in your pack and remember who to thank when you have to put yourself back together someday. Basically my boot had become a scoop for sand and gravel and the rest of the hike was shovel, throw, shovel, throw, all the way home. Luckily the sole did remain attached in a couple places, giving me a welcome cover for my happy feet.
