Where is the glass ? - Albany Lane

Edinburgh has many "false" windows to fulfil both architectural aesthetics and avoid window taxes, the image of the Glasite Meeting House shows an extreme example.

It was built in 1835-6, as the Church of Christ for the followers of John Glas, who in 1725 founded a breakaway society from the Scottish Presbyterian Church. The view is of the outside of the main meeting room which is lit from above through a low octagonal glazed dome.

Today the property is used as the offices of the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland.
