Robben Island

Took the ferry to Robben Island where Mandela and other political prisoners were held in a maximum security prison during the height of apartheid.

A fascinating place. We were given a tour by an ex-political prisoner. In the picture above he is showing us where they used to get together in their communal cell and take secret classes in politics. Mrs B is hiding at the back.

Great place to visit but the boat was tiny and the waves were 5 foot high at least. Felt quite dodgy after half an hour of that.
