Island of Rum
Second trip of the year. Compare..
On Friday we drove up and caught the ferry to Rum. This time, no tents or gardens sheds. No this time we stayed at Kinloch Castle. Imagine a sandstone box which hasn't had any real investment for two generations. Roll top baths with the chrome worn off the taps and the enamel chipped off the edges. Every piece of furniture an antique, and every one battered and bashed, ring marked and wobbly. Four poster beds with Ikea sheets and BHS towels.
They have been trying to raise enough money to get the roof sorted but I think it is a losing battle.
On the Saturday we claimed the last corbett; Ainshval. You can see why this was the only photo I took that day.
I nearly choked when a face I know walked into the kitchen as we were eating our tea. Turned out he was there to make sure a party of school kids got a couple of days on the hill and still made it home safe to their parents.
