Bassenthwaite Lake

The latter part of this afternoon was very pleasant, but the weather this morning was pretty diabolical. T and L headed off to add another couple of Wainwrights to their tally. We decided to visit the mining museum at Threlkeld, but when we arrived they weren't going to do another tour for about an hour and a half, so we then went to Grasmere.
In Grasmere the rain was still coming down like stair-rods, so after a coffee we returned to the van to eat our lunch.
That was quite a good move as after lunch we went to Whinlatter Forest and had a really lovely walk there, as the rain had virtually stopped and the trees kept the wind at bay.
This was the view on the road up to the forest. About 2 minutes after this we came across an overturned car. Nothing we could do, they were waving the traffic on, but the car was pretty wrecked. I do hope the occupants weren't badly injured.
They just announced on the radio that it was "the warmest day of the year so far in the south of England." It wasn't here! The rain however, was much needed by the farmers.
