Down and Dirty

According to my (limited) research this means:
1. realistic; unvarnished
2. earthy, coarse, uninhibited, etc.
3. unscrupulous
4. fiercely competitive
In my case in means laying on the path to take this. I think the farmer had been spreading manure. As far as I can tell I managed to avoid getting any on me; at least no one is complaining about the smell at the moment.
This little poppy is just a few inches tall. It has survived the field being harvested, the bales collected and the edge of the field plough. It has avoided being walked on and it is the one bit of colour left.
By getting down and dirty I was trying to keep the foreground in focus with everything else blurred. Mainly because the interest stops after just a couple of inches.
