Mersea mud
Mum and I set out in the car this morning - headed towards Colchester, then off to Rowhedge, where we got out and had a nice little walk around. Then drove to Brightlingsea and ended up just round the coast from Jaywick. The weather was a bit grim and grey and the area we'd up in less than inspriring, so we decided to head back to Mersea. Started driving and suddenly got a warning on the dash to say we only had 6 miles' worth of petrol left. Eek! Thankfully, Google told us there was a petrol station a couple of miles away, and we were able to fill up without drama.
Got back to the hotel and Mum had a rest in the room while I set out to the beach again with my camera. Met a man with a dog called Dave. Dave was a newly acquired rescue dog, who'd never been let off his lead previously and now was clearly enjoying his new-found freedom, as he went bounding off and his owner was left shouting "Dave! Dave!" until someone shouted from one of the nearby houseboats that he was way off on the mud flats - and it looked like he had a huge dead fish in his mouth. I left them to it and wished his owner luck with getting Dave settled in!
I went back to the room and had a shower, and Mum and I got ready to go out for dinner - and had a quick chat to my brother on the phone before heading out. Had a really lovely meal at the Coast Inn (pan fried skate with lemon butter and capers - yum), and then a nice mooch along the coast road, looking out at the peaceful view.
